Chemical Reactions Flashcards
Cation
An ion or group of ions having a positive charge
Anion
Atoms or groups of atoms that have gained electrons. Having more negatively charged electrons than positively charged protons, they are negatively charged
Ionic Compound
an ionic compound is a chemical compound in which ions are held together in a structure
Molecule
a group of atoms bonded together, representing the smallest fundamental unit of a chemical compound that can take part in a chemical reaction.
Compound
a thing that is composed of two or more separate elements. Can’t be separated like a mixture
State
a physical condition as regards internal or molecular form or structure, e.g. water, solid, or gas
Metal
a solid material which is typically hard, shiny, malleable, fusible, and ductile, with good electrical and thermal conductivity
Solvent
a liquid, typically one other than water, used for dissolving other substances.
Solute
the minor component in a solution, dissolved in the solvent.
Polyatomic Ion
A polyatomic ion, also known as a molecular ion, is a charged chemical species (ion) composed of two or more atoms covalently bonded or of a metal complex that can be considered to be acting as a single unit.
