Chemical World Flashcards
(19 cards)
What is all Matter made up of?
Atoms
Solids are
Tightly packed
They vibrate on the spot
Have little energy
Liquids are
Loosely packed particles
Particles roll over each other
Particles have more energy
Gas
Free particles
Particles move away from each other
Particles have lots of energy
List 4 solids
Book
Glasses
Cheese
Key
List 4 Liquids
Rain drops
Water
Ice Tea
Milk
List 4 Gases
LPG (BBQ)
Steam
Helium
Oxygen
What is Density?
It’s how closely the particles (atoms) are in a state of matter. (solid, liquid, gas)
The more closely they are packed the more dense the substance.
The more heavier a substance is the more dense it is.
What are the 3 basic properties of matter?
Volume
Mass
Shape
What is matter made up of?
Atoms
What is volume the amount of?
Space
What does not have a definite shape?
Gases and liquids
What does not have a definite shape, but does have a definite volume?
Liquids
What has a definite shape and volume?
Solids
What is a physical change?
It’s a change of state.
What is a Chemical change?
It’s when particles arrange differently and in different ways to make a new substance.
What are the 3 States of Matter?
Solid
Liquid
Gas
When’d does a physical change occur?
When substances change in some way without forming a new substances. And change is reversible.
Example
Ice Water Steam
Cutting paper into pieces is still paper
When does a chemical change occur?
It occurs whenever a new substance is formed and is NOT reversible.
Example
Jelly crystals becomes jelly
Raw egg becomes cooked egg
