Chemistry 1.2.4 Flashcards
What is ‘Group 0’ Called?
The Noble Gasses.
The Group Number of an Element is not only how many Electrons are in its Outer Shell, but is also therefore the Number of ___ it must Gain/Lose in order to become Stable. (EG Group 3, 3OSE, Lose 3E to get full OS, & become Stable.).
Electrons.
Why is it called ‘Group 0’ instead of ‘Group 8’?
Because 0 Electrons need to be Gained/ Lost- The Noble Gasses are already Stable. They already have full Outer Shells.
All of the Noble Gasses are: (4)
-Non-Metals.
-Monatomic (exist as Single Atoms).
-Colourless.
-Non-Flammable Gasses at room Temp..
What are the Noble Gasses’ MP & BP like?
Very Low.
As you go down Group 0, BP ___.
Increases.
As you go down Group 0, Intermolecular Forces between Atom ___.
Increases.
As you go down Group 0, Density ___.
Increases.
