Why would a balloon stay inflated?
Particles are colliding with the walls of the balloon. This produces a pressure on the balloon.
What’s the equation for moment?
Force x Distance (Nm/Ncm)
What’s a moment?
The turning effect of a force
Two things that affect gas pressure:
. Increasing temperature raises pressure, while decreasing volume compresses gas particles, increasing pressure.
Factors that affect gas pressure:
Number of gas particles, temperature, volume, and collisions between particles with container walls.
Cause of atmospheric pressure:
It is caused by the weight of air pressing down on the Earth’s surface due to gravity.
how atmospheric pressure changes with height:
: It decreases as altitude increases because there is less air above exerting pressure.
Comparing effects of atmospheric pressure:
At higher altitudes, lower pressure can make breathing harder due to less oxygen. In weather systems, high pressure often brings clear skies, while low pressure can lead to storms.
What are common characteristics of objects that float?
A: Low density, large surface area, and displacement of enough water to support their weight.
What is the equation for pressure?
A: Pressure = Force ÷ Area (P = F/A).
How does increasing area affect pressure?
A: A larger area decreases pressure for the same force.
How do you solve multistep pressure problems?
A: Break the problem into force, area, and pressure calculations using P = F/A.
What is the equation for calculating a moment?
A: Moment = Force × Distance from Pivot (M = F × d).
How do you calculate the moment of a force?
A: Multiply the force applied by the perpendicular distance from the pivot.
Why do gas giants have thick atmospheres?
Gas giants have thick atmospheres because their strong gravity holds onto gases like hydrogen and helium.
Differences between stars and planets?
Light Source, temperature, size and mass, twinkling- features of stars opposite to planets.
What causes the phases of the Moon?
A: The Moon’s position relative to Earth and the Sun determines which part of it is illuminated.
Why does earth have eclipses
Earth has frequent eclipses because its Moon is the right size and distance to create both solar and lunar eclipses.
How does a wave reflect?
When a wave encounters a boundary between two different mediums, it can be reflected, meaning it bounces back in the opposite direction. The angle at which the wave hits the surface (the angle of incidence) is equal to the angle at which it bounces back (the angle of reflection).
The effect of superposition waves?
when two or more waves overlap, their individual displacements combine to create a new, resultant wave at a specific point.
