Chemistry Flashcards
(10 cards)
How to measure the rate of reaction
Reactant used over time or product formed(g) or cm3 over time(s)
What factors effect the rate of reaction
Teamperature
Surface Area
Concentration/Pressure
Catalysts
Where is the rate of reaction quickest
At the very beginning
What is collision theory
For particles react, they have to collide with each other with sufficient Energy
What is activation energy
The minimum amount of energy needed for a reaction to happen
How does temperature effect the rate if reaction
Higher temperature results in a quicker reaction because the particles have more energy energy which results in more particles colliding with more energy than the activation energy
How does Surface Area effect the rate of reaction
A larger surface area results in a quicker reaction because more reactant is exposed to the solution which means more frequent collisions
How does a catalyst effect the rate of reaction
Catalysts increase the rate of reaction by offering a alternate pathway which has a lower activation energy which results in more successful collisions
Is a Catalyst used up in a reaction
No
Does a sugar cube have more or less surface area than powdered sugar
Less
