Chemistry Topic 3 Flashcards
(8 cards)
1
Q
What does conservation of mass mean?
A
- no atoms are lost or made during a chemical reaction —> same no. Of each element on the left and the right
- the mass of the product = mass of the reactants
(Reaction involves gases)
2
Q
Calculate the relative formula mass of Na2o:
A
(2x23) + (1x16) =62
3
Q
Avogadros constant:
A
- 6.02 x 10 ^23
- represents the number of atoms in the relative atomic mass of a substance in grams
4
Q
Formula for mass:
A
-Mass = Mr x mole
-Or rearrange to:
mass/Mr = moles
5
Q
What is concentration?
A
- a measure of how many dissolved particles are in a set volume of solution
6
Q
Equation for concentration:
A
Concentration = mass/volume
7
Q
What is the limiting reactant?
A
The reactant that will run out first
8
Q
What is the excess?
A
The reactant that is left over
