Chemistry unit 1 Flashcards
(14 cards)
What are the 3 main states of matter?
solid, liquid and gas
The characteristics of a solid are?
it’s rigid, fixed shape, can not be squashed, very strong bonds
The characteristics of a liquid are?
Not rigid, doesn’t have a fixed shape, can not be squashed, strong bonds
The characteristics of a gas are?
not rigid, fills all available space, can be squashed (compressed) and loose bonds
What do you call the process by which a solid turns to a liquid?
Melting
What do you call the process by which a liquid turns to a gas
Evaporation
What do you call the process by which a gas turns to a liquid?
Condensation
What do you call the process by which a liquid turns to a solid?
Freezing
What do you call the process by which a gas turns to a solid?
Deposition
What do you call the process by which a solid turns to a gas?
Sublimation (eg dry ice)
The states of matter can be shortened to what letters?
S, L and G
The four and far lass common state of matter is called?
Aqueous Solution (Aq)
