Chemotherapy Flashcards
(19 cards)
List the stages of the cell cycle in order
G0, G1, S, G2, M
G0: resting stage, cells haven’t started to divide
G1: Cell starts making proteins in preparation to divide
S: DNA is copied (20-30hrs)
G2: Phase just prior to mitosis (2-10hrs)
M: Mitosis, cell divides (20-30mins)
During which phase of the cell cycle is asparaginase most active?
G1 phase
During which phase of the cell cycle are Danorubacin/Doxorubacin most active?
Between S phase & G2 phase
During which phase of the cell cycle are Bleomycin & Etoposide most active?
G2 phase
During which phase of the cell cycle are Vincristine/Vinblastine most active?
M phase

Nephrotoxic, hepatitis, dermatitis, mucositis
Toxicity in methotrexate is related to Length of exposure (!!)

Nephrotoxicity
Ototoxicity (HF hearing loss)
Neurotoxicity
Nausea +++ (with delayed nausea)
Increased risk for developing anthracycline-induced cardiotoxicity?
Total cumulative dose
Mediastinal radiotherapy
Young age
Female gender
Which chemotherapeutic agents have been implicated in causing secondary leukaemias?
Alkylating agents (cyclophosphamide) Etoposide
SE of vincristine?
jaw pain
foot drop (peripheral neuropathy)
constipation
** Doesn’t cause BM suppression
How does methotrexate work?
Inhibits DNA synthesis (dihydrofloate reductase inhibitor)
Long term SE of Etoposide?
2nd malignancy (AML)
SE of asparaginase?
Bleeding/diathesis
Pancreatitis
Anaphylaxis
Long term risks of Anthracyclines?

What is bleomycin commonly used for? And long term SE?
Hodgkins disease
Pulmonary fibrosis
Cyclophosphamide SE?
Hemorrhagic cystitis
Infertility
Secondary malignancy
WHICH INTRATHECAL CHEMOTHERAPEUTIC AGENT IS ASSOCIATED WITH DEATH? (~!!!!)
VINCRISTINE (general BADNESS KATE)
Long term SE Ifosfamide?
Fanconi syndrome
