-change in norms and values (child-centred society )
what is sue palmers theory of toxic childhood
talks about how bad childhood is getting for children:
kids have easier access to technology, junk food which is damaging for their physical and mental health
children are gaining dependency on technologies they’re given it by parents to be quiet and with parents working longer hours they rely on it as a form of entertainment
what does Wagg say about childhood
its social constructed and there is no universal childhood experienced by everyone
believed childhood isn’t natural and should be distinguished from biological immaturity
what are cross culture differences in childhood
in western counties, children have laws protecting and proper access to healthcare and education
whilst in non-western countries will have adult like responsibilities like having a job in factories or soldiers e.g. nepal
what are 3 factors that change peoples experiences in childhood
1). social class
2). gender
3). ethnicity
what are some disadvantages of sue palmers theory
- an example of parents panicking about technology
-its argued its better children are consumers rather than producers ( child labour )
what are some strengths of sue palmers theory
-modernised and reflects what is going on in society at the moment
-many sociologists do agree and so does health statistics showing the damaging effect of technology and the growing rise of obesity and mental health problems
