The Judge (bench/court)

A
  • must act impartially
  • decided what evidence is admissible
  • rule on credibility of witness statements, if accused is guilty & set the sentence

A

system of law in which two or more opposing sides present their case in court

  • have less power than judges

- May issue documents for police (search warrants)

Crown Attorney (prosecutors)

A

lawyer who prosecutes on behalf of gov. + society

  • must disclose all evidence
  • must prove beyond reasonable doubt the accused committed the crime

To keep the jury together and isolated until it reaches a verdict

Arraignment

A

At the opening of a criminal trial, the charge is read out to the accused & the plea is entered
