Catholicism
Based in rome and led by the pope.
Orthodox
Split from Catholic Christianity in 1054 in the great chasm. Practised in eastern Europe.
Protestant
Split from catholicism in the 1500s. Has many groups e.g Baptist and Methodist. Believe the Bible is the only authority for Christians.
The Nicene Creed
“We believe in one God.”
God
Creator and sustainer of all.
People have a relationship with God through prayer.
John 4:24 “God is Spirit.”
God is holy.
Jesus is the representation of God on Earth.
Gods qualities
Omnipotent - all powerful (unlimeted authority.)
Omnibenevolent - Uses his power to do good. Shows his love by caring for humans. He showed love by sending Jesus to Earth.
All Just - Just judge of humanity - Never supports ill treatment or injustice.
Christian argument to why does God allow people to suffer.
God treats all people fairly so they should trust God even when things are going wrong.
The Trinity
The father - creator of all life. Omnibenevolent, omnipresent and omnipotent.
The son - Incarnated through Jesus. Fully human and fully divine.
The Holy Spirit - influences, guides and sustains life on Earth.
Genesis 1:1
“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth”
John 1:1-3
“In the beginning was the word and the word was with God, and the Word was God.”
Matthew 1:18
“She was found to be pregnant through the holy spirit.”
John 1:14
“The word became flesh”
Jesus
Fully God and fully human. Fully God explains his miracles such as resurection.
Christians believe jesus is a spiritual messiah.
Jesus told his deciples not to say this as he could be arrested for blasphemy.
Cruxifixion
Luke 23:46. “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.”
Jesus had a rushed burial due to the fact the Sabbath was about to begin.
Why is the crucifixtion important.
Jesus’ sacrifice gives hope to Christians that their sins will be forgiven.
God understands human suffering because Jesus who is God experienced it.
Helps Christians to understand that suffering is a part of life.
