The trinity
God is one but in three parts (father, son and the holy spirit) they all play different roles

A set of beliefs that you must believe to be a Christian. belief of the trinity is set out there

Literal account of creation
Believing the Genesis story about how the world was made word for word e.g believing believing the worl was made in 7 days, 6000 years ago
Non-literal account account of creation
believing the genesis story about how the world was made is a metaphor and we can believe the meaning of the story but not the details

another name for jesus because he was gods ‘word’ on earth
Incarnation
In the flesh e.g Jesus is God in the flesh
Last supper
The final meal Jesus had with his discliples where he predicted his betrayal and also showed he was humble by washing the feet of his discliples
Crucifixion
Jesus was accused of blasphemy and was hung on a cross to die
Resurrection
When Jesus came back to life after his crucifixion
Ascension
When Jesus went up to heaven to be with God
Salvation
When we are saved and our souls are made perfect and we can be with God forever in heaven
Grace
We achieve salvation not because we deserve it but because God loves us and wants us to have salvation so it gives it to us through Grace
Atonement
Repairing the damage that has been done and fixing things
Eschatology
The study of life after death
Hell
A place of pain and fire but made worse as you are eternally separated from God
Purgatory
A place where you can go after death to have your sins cleansed through fire, so your soul can go to heaven
39 articles of faith
Set of beliefs decided by the church of England in 1553 where ideas of Purgatory were rejected
Problem of evil
How can God be omnipotent and omnibenevolent and still exist? surely he would stop evil if he had the power
Moral suffering
Suffering caused by the misuse of the free will of humans e.g murder
Natural suffering
suffering caused by the malfunctioning of the natural world e.g earthquakes
