Q

What is Jesus claiming when He uses the word “Blessed” talking about the 8 Beatitudes? “Blessed are those who. . .”

A

These are the things that will provide you with Joy indescribably. If He’s really God, yay! How much more than right can He be! If you listen to His Beatitudes, you be Joyful, and that makes things really so much easier, because otherwise I don’t know what really gives me Joy. And each Beatitude also comes with another great thing! So yay!

Q

In the Sermon on the Mount, what does Jesus say about Divorce? (know just 1 of these topics 3/9)

A

1. It is morally wrong to divorce your wife/husband except for s* immorality. Otherwise, you’re making them a victim of adultery.
2. if you marry that divorced person, you also commit adultery.

(This one’s really hard to take. Cause i don’t really understand why either. But, God would never command anything bad, I understand. Since I know that, either I’m understanding it wrong [which is why it’s important to research the context], or either it’s right and true but i just don’t like it)

Q

In the Sermon on the Mount, what does Jesus say about Revenge? (know just 1 of these topics 4/9)

A

Rather than an “eye for an eye”, “if anyone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other cheek also”. Don’t seek revenge, rather take it plainly and don’t resist it. I believe Jesus is talking about personal issue’s here, not war. Anyways, when you don’t choose to fight back, you refuse a system the other person delved into. By not being like them, you rebuke them. The more resistance you put up, most of the time, problems get bigger. However, if you take it and refuse to resist, no matter how tempting it might be, you kill such an issue right then and there. So you win :D

Q

In the Sermon on the Mount, what does Jesus say about Giving to the Poor? (know just 1 of these topics 5/9)

A

1. Don’t give away just to show off how good of a person you are (cough cough many billionaires I think cough)
2. Give away in secret. Don’t go out of your way to share it with anybody that you gave away.
(Stop tipping peoples, it’s just so you can show off how good a person you are. It’s showy. Most people tip more than they actually donate to charities. Same with hospitality, alot of peopel spend so much to show hospitality, and that’s great and all, but they are jsut tryign to show off how good a person they are. And so they spend more showign hospitality rather than actually donatign to charity where no one will know you donated. [i’m guilty of both btw :D])

In the Sermon on the Mount, what does Jesus say about Worry? (know just 1 of these topics 7/9)

A

1. Don’t worry because worrying does nothing
2. If God provides for all the animals and plants, wouldn’t He provide much more for you, His prized possession?
3. Seek the Kingdom of heaven, and everything that you need will be provided to you.
So do not worry, just seek God and Jesus’ promises, if you do that, everything you need will be provided for. Really weird, but if He really is God, how much more than right can He be? And would you not want it to be true? It makes things soooo much easier!!! No more need to worry cause I know for certainty, all my needs will be provided for! So long as I keep doing His will and following God. (which sadly means i do have to study hard still :( but that’s alright). But i don’t need to worry about my future or anything

Q

In the Sermon on the Mount, what does Jesus say about Judging Others? (know just 1 of these topics 8/9)

A

1. Don’t judge others without judging yourself first with the same standard
2. God will Judge you the same way you judged your fellow, so be very very careful when you do choose to judge

The bible says it’s like double-bladed sword. Like that guy from star wars who has his lightsabers coming out at the top and bottom of the thingy. In real life, double-bladed swords are terrible, cause at the same time you attack someone else with it, you have to dodge the other side of it. So be very very careful, cause just as much as you use your judgment on someone else, you use it on yourself too.

Q

What is the meaning of the story of the Wise Man and the Foolish Man at the end of the Sermon on the Mount?

A

If you build your life (your house) on a weak foundation – your own opinion, your own ways, etc. your life will collapse at the first sign of trouble. But if you build your life based on the words of Jesus and the Bible, then you are able to face any problem. If Jesus is really God, how much more than right can He be? Reeeeaaallllllylylylylylylyyyyyyyyyy, it’s such a great thing I would want to be true cause it makes things so so so much easier - and the most wonderful thing is that it is!!! why don’t people take what He says seriously :( even when they do believe He is who He says He is :( I’m ranting but it’s sad :((((((((((((

A

He comes at night because he is well-respected in the community and he is embarrassed to be seen with Jesus, talking with him, etc. So he comes at night so no one will see him.

Q

Why does Jesus tell the story of Moses and the bronze snake?

A

Moses makes a bronze snake and puts it on a pole so that anyone who is bitten by a serpent just has to look at the bronze snake and he will be healed. Jesus makes the comparison that he too will soon be lifted up on a pole (cross) and anyone who believes in him and looks to him will be saved from the sting of sin.

Jesus is saying that just being a “good person” does not get you into heaven. He is saying not all religions are right and there is really only one true religion – following him. God will only accept people that follow Jesus.

25
Why does God call himself "I AM" to Moses?
God calls himself this because there is no other God. HE IS God, not just one of the gods.
26
What are the 4 different kinds of soils, in the Parable of the Sower?
1. The Path 2. The Stony Soil 3. The Thorny Soil 4. The Good Soil
27
What does the 'soils' represent in the Parable of the Sower?
The 4 kinds of people of how they react to the Message of Jesus
28
What kind of person would The Path represent, in the Parable of the Soil?
This is the hard ground, the hard heart. They don’t want to talk about, discuss, listen to anything about religion. They are against anyone who wants to talk about God.
29
What kind of person would The Stony Soil represent, in the Parable of the Soil?
**This soil is shallow. It looks good, but under the soil it is just stones. This is the heart that shows some interest when talking about God, but they are shallow – when pressure comes, they fall away.** They believe, but as soon as Christianity says they have to do something they don't wanna do or it gets hard, they give up on it :(
30
What kind of person would The Thorny Soil represent, in the Parable of the Soil?
**This soil has a lot of other, harmful weeds growing in it. This heart is represented by anyone who has some interest in religion / Christianity, but they have other cares / concerns in their life and religion gets pushed down in importance.** This is the one most personal and ironic to me. Cause I know so so many people who have problems in their life so they don't want to try listening to Jesus. But it's ironic, cause I also see, as Jesus claims, the very solution to most of their problems in their lives is Himself! Listen to the Parable of the Wise Man who builds on a rock, or His words, "Come to **me** all you who are weary." It's really sad and very ironic :(
31
What kind of person would The Good Soil represent, in the Parable of the Soil?
This is the soft heart that is ready to hear about God. They allow God’s word to sink into their heart and they want to be true followers. They see great results and changes in their life for the positive. Jesus says that only God’s Word, the Bible, can bring about this change.
32
What kind of soil are you?
33
Why does Jesus talk to the people using “parables” or stories?
1. It keeps people's attention - a story is fun to listen 2. They are more relatable 3. The people who are earnestly seeking to learn the spiritual lesson behind the story, they will dig deeper and uncover it’s true meaning
34
What does it mean to have a “soft” heart?
God wants his followers to be open, humble and responsive to his teachings. Willing to learn, listen and obey. A hard heart will ignore God’s word and continue to chase after pride and sin
35
Do you have a soft or hard heart?
36
When a lawyer tried to trap Jesus in His words, how did it backfire on Him?
Jesus asks the lawyer what he thinks the answer to the question is, and the lawyer answers. Jesus says, good answer! And everyone laughs at the lawyer because he fell into his own trap.
37
Why would it be shocking back then to hear a story where the hero is a Samaritan?
The Jews hated the Samaritans. Any chance they got, they would hurt them. For the Samaritan to be the hero, Jesus is saying that even their supposed enemies can follow God’s will and do what is right.
38
What is the main message that Jesus is trying to convey in the story of the Good Samaritan?
**God wants us to show love to everyone, not just our friends or people who are nice to us. Go out of your way to be kind, even to your enemies. This is what makes his followers different from everyone else.** Everyone can be good to people who are good to them, even Hitler was. But Christians are called to be good also to the people bad to them. Almost nobody does this.
39
In the Parable of the Prodigal Son, When the younger son asks for his share of the inheritance what is he really saying?
Father, I wish you were already dead.
40
In the Parable of the Prodigal Son, Who does the Younger Son represent?
The young son represents sinners who are repentant and come back to God, asking forgiveness.
41
In the Parable of the Prodigal Son, Who does the Older Son represent?
The older son are people who think their good deeds are all that is needed to save them from hell.
42
In the Parable of the Prodigal Son, Who does the Father represent?
The father represents a loving, caring God.
43
In the Parable of the Prodigal Son, What does the father do as soon as he sees his son coming home?
He runs out to him, hugs him, forgives him and throws a party for him.
44
In the Parable of the Prodigal Son, Why is the older son so mad at the end?
He is mad because he feels all his hard work is being ignored and he wants a party too – without his father – just him and his friends.
45
In the Parable of the Prodigal Son, Why does Jesus just end the story at such an odd moment?
The story just ends because the religious leaders are represented in the older son and Jesus is putting the story to them and basically saying to them – “How are you going to finish the story? Are you going to repent and join the party too?”
46
In the Parable of the Prodigal Son, How does this story actually end?
The older son (the religious leaders) beat the father to death and kill him.
47
How is Jesus both victorious and humble at the Triumphal Entry?
Victorious: he rides into Jerusalem, everyone is shouting out “Hosanna! Our Saviour!”. Humble: he is on a donkey.
48
In the Triumphal Entry, the people shout “Hosanna”. What does this mean, and what were the people hoping for?
It means “Our Saviour”. The people hoped Jesus would overthrown the Roman Empire and free them
49
In the Triumpal entry, What is the first thing Jesus does when he enters Jerusalem?
He goes into the temple and overturns all the tables of the thieves and whips the people who were making a mockery of God’s temple.
50
.Why do these same people scream “Crucify Him!” just 5 days later after Jesus enters Jerusalem?
They realize that Jesus is not going to lead an army against Rome. He seems to only care about getting people to stop sinning and following God – which the people don’t want to do.
51
What is the story of Passover?
In Egypt, the Israelites are slaves. God sends 10 Plagues to rescue them. The final plague, God tells the people that they must kill a lamb and put its blood on the doors of their homes. Any house without the blood, the first born person in the house will die. All the Egyptian first-born are killed and as a result, Pharaoh frees the Israelites.
52
How is the old Passover and Jesus’ death actually connected?
Jesus is the lamb. He died for us, his blood shed is what protects us from the wrath of God. People that believe in Jesus have their sins forgiven and God “passes over” them on judgment day. Those that do not believe, are left to face God’s wrath.
53
What is the lesson Jesus is trying to teach when he washes his disciples feet at the Last Supper?
Humility. It doesn’t matter how “important” you think you are. Serve others. Jesus was God, yet he showed humility and put others ahead of himself.
54
In your opinion – if God knows the future and we can’t change it, does man really have free will?
Oh boy, this is an opinion question. Be prepared to write 2 or three thoughts on this question. There is no “right” or “wrong” answer so long as you attempt to share your insights. - Yay philosophy!!11111!!!!!!!!
55
What 3 things do the Romans do the mock Jesus with as the “King” of the Jews?
1. A Crown of Thorns 2. A purple Robe 3. The sign above his head on the cross
56
Jesus was on the cross for 6 hours. Why were the second 3 hours much much worse?
It was when God pours out his supreme wrath on Jesus for every sin that mankind has ever committed. Jesus took the full weight of God’s punishment which was WAY worse than anything the Romans could do to him.
57
How is every person that ever lived represented in the 3 crosses?
1. One thief had sin *in* him and *on* him 2. One thief had sin *in* him but NONE on him 3. Jesus had NO sin *in* Him but ALL sin *on* him
58
Why Jesus HAD to die as a part of God’s ultimate plan.
God demands blood for sin. Something has to DIE because sin has to be punished. Jesus had to die and bleed in order to satisfy God’s holy standards of judgement and justice. He takes our place and dies instead of us.
59
What 3 “S’s” did the leaders put in place to make sure Jesus didn’t rise from the dead?
1. Stone 2. A seal 3. Soldiers
60
Why is the resurrection so important to Christians?
It proves that God has the power over death. When a Christian dies, they believe that they will one day be resurrected like Jesus and go to heaven.
61
If Jesus died on the cross and rose again, and so He was really God, would you believe in Christianity?
62
Who are all the groups of people Jesus appears to after Resurrection?
1. The Disciples 2. The Women in his Group 3. Men on a road 4. Over 400 different people
63
Where do Christians believe Jesus is right now and what is he doing?
They believe he has returned to heaven and he is praying, protecting and providing for Christians until the time when he comes back to earth to take us all to be with him.
