What are the 4 types of worship
Liturgical worship (catholic)

Explain what liturgical worship (catholics) is
- follows set of prayers and readings
- service is done by the priest
- they sing hymns, say prayers and recite set responses to readings
- they focus on the sacrament of the Eucharist and sacrament of reconciliation
- Also practised by Church of England as well as catholics
- very formal, all chairs must face alter. One behind the other

Explain non liturgical worship (bapist)
- more informal, less structure to their service
- sermon can be the main part of the service if wanted
- prayers can be our own words and unscripted rather than from the bible or a book
- all sit facing toward person leading (usually has several floors)
- Eucharist isn’t the main focus of the service, its the scriptures and the prayers said
Explain informal worship
- focuses on adoration of god and can take place outside of a church
- may be held in large auditoriums (music is a big part of it)

Explain charismatic worship (Pentecostal churches)
- no set prayers or patterns to service
- no priest or main leader of the service
- people may speak whenever they feel they should
- very large focus on the Holy Spirit
- most of the time they are sat in silence or are meditating waiting to feel the holt spirit
- sat in chairs in a circle facing each other

What are the 7 sacraments of the Catholic Church?
- baptism
- reconciliation

What is baptism?
Symbol of washing away original sin
Tell the story of Jesus baptism and include quotes
- heavens parted “this is my son whom i am well pleased
- dove came down from heaven
- the Holy Trinity were all present here
- “i ought to be baptised by you yet you come to me”
- “for in this way we shall do all that god requires” .. important quote for baptism
What is infant baptism?
- some Christians believe that only baptised Christians can enter heaven
- practised by catholics and Church of England
- water and oil is poured on your head and prayers are said
What is adult baptism?
- full body immersion
- also can happen when converting into Christianity (for catholics and CoE too)
- follows Jesus’ example as close as possible
- wearing all white
Arguments to support adult baptism
- choice and freedom to choose whats best for you
- affirm and promise their faith
- can now starter their ministry
- better understanding of the faith
- Jesus was baptised as an adult
- St Paul’s writing only mentions adult baptism
- infants are most likely to turn away from faith when they get older
Arguments to support infant baptism
- cleanse infant of original sin as soon as their born
- at the beginning of their lives they are welcomed in by the church
- sacrament of initiation
- anointed by god
- family knows whats best for them
Why is baptism important?
- commitment to god
- sacrament of initiation
- only can happen once
- blessed by holy trinity
- gets rid of original sin
What is the Eucharist?
Commemorates the last supper
Sharing of the ‘body and the blood’ of Christ in church
What is transubstantiation and who is it believed by?
Catholics
Transformation of the bread and wine into the actual body and blood of Christ.
Based on Jesus’ words at the last supper
Real presence
What is consubstantiation and who is it believed by?
Church of England
Body and blood is symbolically present in the bread and wine (doesn’t actually transform)
Memorial for him
Why is Eucharist important?
Honours his sacrifice and follows his commandments

What is believed by both church’s about the Eucharist?
- bread and wine blessed by a member of the clergy
- asked to confess sins
- alcoholic wine
- has to take place in a set liturgy
- blessing for those that don’t take it or can’t yet

1) presentation of the candidates
2) renewal of baptismal vows
3) laying of the hands
4) anoints them with chasm
