Q

Functions of the parts of the kidneys

A

Kidneys-remove excess water salts and urea from the blood to form urine. Renal veins-take blood away from kidneys the blood has no waste products. Renal artery-carry urine from the kidneys to the bladder. Bladder-stores urine. Uretha-tube that takes urine from the bladder and passes it out of the body.

17
Q

What is an antagonistic pair?

A

Two muscles which have opposite effects

18
Q

Joints

A

A joint is where bones meet. Most joints aloe movement to take place. 2 types - moveable and immovable. Immovable- no movement between the bones e.g. Skull. Moveable-ball and socket joints-allow movement in all directions, e.g. Shoulders. Hinge joints-allow movement in one direction only e.g. Elbows. Cartilage-covers the end of bones. Protects end of bones. Reduces friction. Muscles-made of protein. Can get shorter. Attached to bones on either side of a joint. Functions of muscles and joints-allow movement. Tendons connect muscle to bone. Ligaments connect bone to bone.

19
Q

How to dissect a kidney

A

Lie kidney flat on its side, cut the kidney length wise from the side.
Safety-be careful with knife clean desk and hands

20
Q

To carry out an experiment to demonstrate that oxygen and water are necessary for rusting.

A

A=dry air and nail B=oil and boiled cooled water C=air unboiled water
Conclusion-test tube a and b don’t rust
