What is granulomatous inflammation?

A

A type of chronic inflammation, occurs especially when the causative agent of the response is difficult to eradicate/digest.

Characteristic features:
1. Granulomas - epitheloid histocytes
2. Multinucleated giant cells - arise becos of lymphocytes that secrete cytokines, triggering histocytes to aggregate together

Granulation: Important components of healing and compromises small blood vessels in a connective tissue
