Circulation Flashcards
(22 cards)
Pulmonary artery
Carries blood from right ventricle to lungs
Aorta
Carries blood from heart to send it around the body
Pulmonary vein
Carries blood back from the lungs to the left atrium
Vena Cava
Carries blood from around the body to the heart
Left atrium
Receives oxygenated blood from the pulmonary vein
Valve
Valves prevent the blood flowing backwards
Left ventricle
Receives blood from the left atrium and pumps blood into the aorta
Septum
Wall separating both sides of the heart
Right ventricle
Pumps blood into pulmonary artery
Right atrium
Receives deoxygenated blood from the vena cava
Circulatory system
Means all the vessels through which the blood flows around the body
Oxygenated blood
means the blood is carrying a lot of oxygen
Deoxygenated blood
Means the blood is not carrying much oxygen
A tissue
Group of cells with a similar structure and function
Plasma
90% water and 10%
Function:to transport dissolved chemicals
plasma made up of proteins, glucose salts
Red blood cells
Carries oxygen
Made in bone marrow
White blood cell
Fight infection
Platelet
Helps to clot blood when blood vessels are damaged
Artery blood vessel
Deep in the body, difficult to damage always carry blood away from the house
Vein blood vessel
Tin walls closer to the surface of the body easier to damage always carry blood towards the heart
Capillary
Only one cell thick very thin walls, to allow substances to pass into cells
Pulse
Vibration in any artery due to the beat of the heart
