Circulatory 1 (lec 24) Flashcards
(36 cards)
Structure/ histological make up of different blood vessels
Describe blood pressure
Pressure exerted on blood vessel walls by the blood
Describe neural regulation of cardiovascular function
Medulla oblongata contains a group of nuclei called cardiovascular centre which monitors and regulates cardiovascular function
Describe principal arteries of systemic circulation
Primary function of cardiovascular system
- Transport substances to and from tissue and cells of the body
- regulate body temp
- regulate acid base balance
- defend from disease
Blood vessels have 3 basic layers
Tunica externa (connective tissue) Tunica media (smooth muscle & elastic connective tissue) Tunica interna (epithelial tissue)
Arteries carry blood
Away from heart
Veins carry blood
To heart
2 main circuits of the cardiovascular system
- systemic circulation
- carry oxygenated blood from heart to body & return w/ deoxygenated
- pulmonary circulation
- carry deoxygenated blood from heart to lungs & return w/ oxygenated
Largest artery in body
Aorta
4 sections:
- ascending aorta (heart)
- arch of aorta (head, upper limbs, neck)
- thoracic aorta (thoracic cavity)
- abdominal cavity (abdomen, pelvic, lower limbs)
Branches of the ascending aorta
- right and left coronary arteries

Bronchial arteries bring oxygenated blood to the ______
Lung tissue
Bronchial veins bring ________ blood from lung tissue
Deoxygenated
What is A
Inferior mesenteric artery
