Circulatory/digestive/excretory Flashcards
(37 cards)
What does inferior vena cava do
Bring blood from lower body (from kidneys)into right ventricle low in O2
What does the Superior vena cava do in circulatory sys?
Brings in blood from head to right atrium (low in O2)
What does Right ventricle do?
pumps blood to lungs to pick up O2 via the pulmonary artery
What does left atrium do
Receives oxygenated blood from lungs via pulmonary vein
What does left ventricle do
Pumps oxygenated blood to the body via the aortic arch
How many chambers in the heart
4
True or false
Ventricles are larger than atriums?
True- left ventricle is the most muscular and the biggest
Function of teeth
Chew and grind food
Function of Lips
Close mouth and aids in speech
Function of Tongue
Push food to back of mouth
Function of salivary glands
Moisten and break down food- enzyme amylase breaks down starch in mouth
Function of epiglottis
Keeps food out of trachea
Function of peristalsis
Muscular contractions that move food down esophagus to stomach
Function of cardiac sphincter
Gate that keeps acids and food in stomach
Function of stomach
Breaks down protein
What protects stomach wall from acids
Mucus/mucin
Function of HCl (hydrochloric acid)
Kills bacteria in food and helps break it down in stomach
Purpose of pepsin
Enzyme that breaks down protein in stomach
Function of Pyloric sphincter
Circular muscle that lets food go into small intestine
keeps food on stomach
What are ulcers
Holes in stomach lining
Purpose of circulatory system
To pump oxygenated blood to your body
Purpose of excretory system
Cleans blood - makes waste(urine) &
Regulates body water
Function of pancreas
Help digest food by secreting sodium bicarbonate to small intestine
Function of liver in digestion
Produces bile & changes protein ammonia to urca for digestion
