Circulatory System Flashcards
(26 cards)
What is circulatory system?
Transports Oxygen, water, food throughout the body and carried waste and urea away
What is consist of in the circulatory system?
Heart
Blood
Blood Vessel (Veins, Capillaries, Arteries)
Whats is another word for Red Blood Cell
Erythrocytes
Whats the function of blood?
Maintain homeostasis it regulates body temperature, ph and electrolytes
Transport food, oxygen and water throughout the body and get rid of waste and urea away from cells
Immunity and defence, fight off foreign objects from entering the body system
What are the 3 types of blood cells?
White blood cell
Red Blood cell
Platelets
What does Red Blood Cell do?
They transport oxygen into body cell
What does white blood cell do?
They are known for fighting foreign organism that enters the body
And also called Leukocytes
What does platelets do?
Stop bleeding , by clumping and clotting blood vessel injuries
Another word for platelets thrombocytes
How does the blood flow?
Arteries > Arterioles > Capillaries > Venules > Veins
What does Arteries do? 3 points
Carry oxygenated blood away from the heart to the capillaries
Arteries have strong walls to support when blood enters under high pressure
The Arteries wall have 3 layers thick and resilient
What does Pulmonary Arteries do?
Carries deoxygenated blood from the heart into the lungs
What does capillaries do?
It allows the exchange of nutrients, oxygen and waste and gases with the tissue across the thin lines
Arterioles branch into capillaries
What is a heart and how does it work?
It pumps the blood throughout the body
RIGHT Ventricle (RV) transport deoxygenated blood to the lungs by Pulmonary Arteries
Oxygenated blood transported from the Lungs to the LEFT Atrium (LA) to the LEFT Ventricle (LV)
LEFT Ventricle (LV) transport Oxygenated blood throughout the body by Aorta( BIG arteries)
Vein (VENA CAVA) transport Deoxygenated blood from the body to the RIGHT Atrium (RA) to the RIGHT Ventricle (RV)
What is pulmonary Vein?
It transport Blood that is rich with oxygen to the LEFT Atrium(LA)
What does coronary circulation refers?
movement of blood through the tissues of the heart. They transport oxygen to the cardiac muscle
What does Lymphatic system do?
They transport lymph, a colourless fluid containing white blood cell to get rid of body toxins
What is blood pressure and pulse?
Pressure that the blood exerts against the inner walls of the blood vessels and it’s usually the highest in Arteries as it could be due exercising
What is Hypotension? ( Low
Blood pressure)
The blood is unable to bring oxygen and nutrients to the body cells and removes the waste properly therefore the cell may die
What is Hypertension? ( High blood pressure)
Its when Systolic blood pressure reaches 140bpm, and Diastolic blood pressure is more then 90bpm
Could be due to coronary heart disease
What are the factors affecting blood pressure ? 9 points
Age Body weight Diet Exercise Use of drugs and medication Temperature Time of day Emotional state Body position
What is pulse and how does it work?
Its a pressure wave created
Pulse average 70-76 beats per minute for a person that is resting
How does distribution of blood work?
Blood is distributed throughout the body, but it is based on the needs of the tissue with the most active tissue receiving the most blood
What are the effects of exercising on the circulatory system?
Make our cardiovascular stronger
What are the short terms effects of exercising?
Release of adrenaline
Blood pressure increase leading to increase flow rate and speed of oxygen delivery and nutrients to the working muscle
