circulatory system Flashcards
(17 cards)
how does blood circulate through the body?
blood comes into the right atrium from the body, moves into the right ventricle and is pushed into the pulmonary arteries in the lungs.
how blood moves through the heart (4 steps)
the right atrium reveives oxygen-poor blood from the body and pumps it to the right ventricle through the tricuspid valve. the right ventricle pumps oxygen-poor blood through to the lungs through the pulmonary valve.
how is blood transported?
in arteries, veins and capillaries
what is the function of an artery
sends blood from the heart
what is the function of a vein
sends blood to the heart
what is the function of a capillery
material exchange with tissues
does an artery have a high pressure or low
high
does a vein have a high pressure or low
low
does a capillery have high pressure or low
low
does an artery have any valves?
no
does a vein have any valves?
yes
does a capillery have any valves?

the components of blood?
plasma, red blood cells, platelets and white blood cells
what is plasma?
the main component of blood and consists of mostly water, with proteins, ions, nutrients, and wastes mixed in
what is red blood cells?
are responsible for carrying oxygen and carbon dioxide
what is platelets?
are responsible for blood clotting
what is white blood cells?
are part of the immune system and function in immune response.
