Circulatory System Flashcards
(19 cards)
What are the two types of circulatory systems
Open & closed or pulmonary & systematic
What are the three functions of blood
Transportation, regulation, protection
List the 4 parts of blood
Plasma, erythrocytes, leukocytes, platelets
What are the 4 main parts to the human circulatory system
Heart, lungs, kidneys, liver
Open circulatory system
Blood is not enclosed in blood vessels and flows and bathed in tissue
Closed circulatory system
Blood is enclosed in vessels which carry’s oxygen. These systems are in larger complex organisms.
Pulmonary circulation
Blood pumped between heart and lungs
Systematic circulation
Blood pumped between heart and rest of body
What are the 2 phases of breathing
Inhalation (air rushes into lungs)
Exhalation (air forced out of lungs)
3 parts of the nephron
Bowman’s capsules, glomerulus, blood capillaries
What is the function of the liver
Liver filters and removes harmful substances like bacteria or alcohol
What is the role of the kidneys
Filtration of the blood
How many times does your heart beat (day&year&lifetime)
100000 times a day, 35 million a year, 2.5 billion in a lifetime
Atriums…
Receive blood when heart relaxes
Ventricles…
Pump blood out when heart contracts
Heart muscle is made up of…
Atriums, ventricles
Three types of blood vessels…
Arteries, capillaries, veins
What determines what type of blood you have
If you have only A antigens you are type A
If you have only B antigens you are type B
A mixture of A&B is type AB
Blood with neither A or B is type O
What makes you have + blood or -
Some people have a blood protein and some people do not. If your blood contains the protein you are positive. If you don’t carry it you are negative
