Circulatory system Flashcards
(41 cards)
What are the three parts of the circulatory system?
Blood
Blood vessels
Heart
What are the 4 components of blood?
Red blood cells
White blood cells
Platelets
Plasma
What is the purpose of Red blood cells?
The main function of red blood cells is to carry oxygen. It may carry nutrients and a little Corbon Doixide sometimes.
Why are the red blood cells red?
Because there is a chemical like a dye called haemoglobin
Where does the red blood cells carry blood?
To all all the cells in the body as well as it takes carbon doixide.
What is the purpose/function of white blood cells?
They are the police of a body. White blood cells detect, attack and destroy. Anything that is not supposed to be in the body the white blood cells attact and destroy it.
What are the two main types of white blood cells?
Lymphocyte
Phagocyte
What are Lymphocytes ?
They contain antibodies that are used to destroy invading bacteria, germs ect.
What are Phagocytes?
They engulf bacteria. Meaning they eat bacteria.
What is the difference between Lymphocyte and Phagocyte?
Lymphocyte kills bacteria while phagocyte engulfs bacteria.
What is the difference between White and Red blood cells?
Red blood cells give oxygen while white blood cells attack.
What does platelets do?
Platelets cause blood clotting. Platelets cause blood to get sticky and when it gets sticky it becomes blood clot.
What do you mean by blood clotting?
A protective layer that forms when you receive a bleeding wound.
What is the plasma and what does it do?
Plasma is the liquid part of the blood. It is in charge of transporting the substances in the blood.
What are the three blood vessels?
Artery
Vein
Cepillary
What does the artery do?
carries blood from the heart to the body except for the pulmonary artery.
What does the vein do?
carries blood from the body to the heart except for the pulmonary vein.
What does the cepillary too
It aids in the exchange of gasses.
What does the heart do?
pumps blood around the body
Two types of circulation
- blood is pumped from the heart to the lungs and back to the heart.
2, blood is pumped from the heart to the body and back to the heart.
What are the four chambers (structure of the heart)
The left chambers
The right chambers
The upper chambers
The lower chambers
Why are there left and right chambers?
to prevent the mixing of oxygenated and deoxygenated blood
Where does deoxygenated blood and oxygenated blood travel?
Deoxygenated blood travels through the right chambers
Oxygenated blood travels through the left chambers
What is the purpose of the valves
Valves seperate the upper chambers from the lower chambers on each side
