- rural to urban migration
- high rates of natural increase

A
- cramped living conditions leads to slum housing (shanty towns) being built in cities –> problems with providing clean water and sanitation
- lots of traffic congestion
- disposing of waste –> large rubbish dumps

- cities have more industry and job opportunities –> economic growth
- better healthcare and education opportunities
