First Past the post
A system where the candidate with the most votes wins. Voters vote for one person.

how preferential voting works.
The winner must get over 50% (50+1) of the votes. If after the first round of voting there is no canditate with over 50 % of the votes, the caditate with least amount of votes is eliminated. The 2nd choice for the voters who voted the eliminated caditate are then added as extra votes which are redistributed. This process continues until there is a winner ( a candidate with over 50% of the votes).
