What is democracy?
A system of government in which the people have a say in how they are ruled or managed.
What types of democracy are there?
- A representative democracy, where people can elect a parliamentarian to represent their views and beliefs.
- A direct democracy, a system that was used in Ancient Greece where people showed up to a communal area to vote and discuss laws and rules.
What are democratic values?
Beliefs and ideas held by society. These include respect, equality, fairness and freedom.
What is the west minister system?
A system adopted by Australia in which they have a parliament which is made up of two chamber, and a sovereign (queen, king, or governor general),
What is justice?
Justice is the concept that people should treat each other in a manner that is fair and balanced for all. This is why the legal system is regularly referred to as the justice system.
What are the key principles that are upheld in court?
A fair trial, a legal representative, an unbiased jury, and the burden of proof.
What are our rights as citizens?
To vote, protection against acquisition of property or unjust terms, right to trial by jury, freedom of religion and protection against discrimination.
What are our responsibilities as citizens?
To vote in elections, jury service, paying tax and obeying law.
How many seats are in the house of representatives?
150.
How many seats are there in the senate?
76.
How many candidates from each state and territory are in the senate?
12 from each of the 6 states, and 2 from each territory.
How can votes be influenced?
Public debating - shows how you can deal with an argument + pressure
Social media
Polls - creates good measure and influences voters to flock to most popular.
