what is democracy?
a system of government by the whole population or h elected representatives.
what is the house of reps
the lower house of parliament it is green. their is 151 seats in the house of reps. which has the winning party and then the oppsition and the individuals.
what does the house of reps do?
they pass laws that the goverment has proposed or change, amend the law.
what is the senate?
the upper house of parliament it is red. it has 76 seanotors 12 from each state and 2 from each territory.
what does the senate do?
the senate decides on matters of national interest. represent people from their state and have their voice heard. (they can also make a bill)
what is the term bicameral?
bicameral means that their are two houses and they vote as a single group.
why does Australia use the bicameral system?
Australia uses the bicameral system to avoid someone having all the power into one person and power abuse.
what is the difference between goverment and parliament?
goverment is the people who were voted by the people of Australia and got the most votes (they reprsent the whole of australia) . parliament is the people who have the second most amount of votes the goverment and the individuals.
whats the role of the govner genral?
the role of the govener genral can pass or dismiss any law on the behalf of the king. he can also dismiss the prime minster if he breaks the law or any extreme sercumstance.
whats first pass the post voting?
the first pass the post voiting means that no matter how many people voted for you the first person to pass the bar wins and gets a seat or seats in parliament.
what is the process for first pass the post voting?
you get a ballot paper and only vote for one person and the person who passes the bar first wins.
what is proportional voting?
proportinal voting is when you vote for your most favrioute to least favrioute 1 being fav 10 being least fav. they then decides who wins by calculating what the quota is and who ever passes it wins.
what is the process of proportinal voiting?
first you vote for your fav to least fave 1-10 and then they get rid of all the non countable votes and then rule out who has the most 1 votes then 2 and then so for and then there are a couple left then they rule out the quota and whoever passes the certain amount of votes win.
what is statutory law?
a law made by Parliament. It is introduced in a Bill and, if passed, becomes an act.
whats the process of statuory law?
