  1. expanded voting rights - voting rights act 1965- law protected marginalised and prohibited discrimination during voting (previously disenfranchised african americans from voting) greater representation - increaed participation led to more accurate results
    2.legislative change and legal precedents - led to major legislative reforms - civil rights act 1964 - outlawed segregation in public places (topeka)- changed peoples interaction

three ways in which pressure groups play a role in promoting rights in the us

A

through lobbying -NAACP- usas oldest civil rights group - major succes
lobbied congress to pass cibil rights act
2. raising public awareness -work to raise concerns to create a change - eg blm- organised protects ect to create change
3.create legal action - many pressure groups use court action to challange laws they believe violate hr
seen through NAACP- brown v topeka case court rulled unconstitutional - separated but equal - changed society

strengths -
1. constititional protection -bill pf rights - first 10 amendments seek to protect rights - freedom of speech freedom to bare arms ect
ff seeked to protect from tyranny of majority and acting ultra vires
2.landmark ruilings of the sc-interprets constitution in relation to modern civil liberties and rights - changed rights over time roev wade case- rulled women had right to an abortion at early stages of pregnancy

3.ammendments-first ratified1791- only applied to free persons not enslaved or women- further ammendemts were required to ensure protection for all

weakness -inequality still present even tho various amendments- have been passed -can be seen through blm movements 2020 clearly movements weren’t as effective
2. economic and social rights -marginalised face inequality in healthcare housing income- eg abortion rights still banned in some states like alabama
