- expanded voting rights - voting rights act 1965- law protected marginalised and prohibited discrimination during voting (previously disenfranchised african americans from voting) greater representation - increaed participation led to more accurate results

2.landmark ruilings of the sc-interprets constitution in relation to modern civil liberties and rights - changed rights over time roev wade case- rulled women had right to an abortion at early stages of pregnancy

weakness -inequality still present even tho various amendments- have been passed -can be seen through blm movements 2020 clearly movements weren’t as effective
2. economic and social rights -marginalised face inequality in healthcare housing income- eg abortion rights still banned in some states like alabama
