Civil War Flashcards

1
Q

How did the Salvadorean Civil War start?

A

Basically, it was income inequality, which was worsened when Salvador became a major producer of coffee. It was worsened becuase the 14 owners of the coffee plantations kept 95% of the money, but not the workers. They used this money to gain political power. The workers heard about communism and some communist actually made it to the goverment. This was shut down by anti-communist military goverment and took over the country. This military goverment took away the rights of the people ( after some voter fraud) and killed losts of communist people. They promised to change, but did not. This started the civil war.
