Class 2 Flashcards
(7 cards)
Hardness
Measure of tablet breaking force (piston that presses on tablet)
Friability
Make sure it does not fall apart or chip when subjected to forces (ex in the bottle, during transport, etc.)
Disintegration
Tablets break apart in solution
Dissolution
How quickly and how much drug the tablet releases
Gamma Scintigraphy
Tablet is radio-labeled (before coating). Patient swallows radio-labeled tablet.
Gamma camera traces activity and dissolution of tablet
PillCam
Alternative to endoscopy. Get a visual image in the body. Can follow the tablet and watch the disintegration/dissolution. Must recover the capsule afterwards.
Intellisite capsule
Drug is placed inside the capsule. The capsule has holes that are not aligned initially. After ingestion, the capsule can be imaged to find out where the capsule is. Once it is in the correct site, application of magnetic field will turn the holes to align them and open the holes in the capsule, allowing drug to disperse.
