GSL general sales list medicines 3.1.1
Available as ‘self-selection’ items for sale in registered pharmacies. They can also be sold in other retail outlets that can ‘close so as to exclude the public’.
As long as there is a RP they can be sold weather present or not (responsive)
Pharmacy medicine (P) 3.1.2
Need to be sold by registered pharmacy/pharmacist/ person under a pharmacist supervision.
Must not be accessible to the public by self-selection.
GSL +P = OTC meds
POM meds 3.1.3
Need prescription made by appropriate person:
doctors
dentists
ALL IPs
EEA and Swiss approved health professionals (see section 3.3.5)
community practitioner nurse prescribers
- optometrist IP (not for CD, or parenteral medicines)
- therapeutic radiographer IP (for certain medicines see section 3.3.14)
Reclassified meds 3.1.4
Med classes are being changed i.e. POM to P so Pharmacy staff need to be appropriately trained to support patients
