A chart that indicates when a groups or organisms have evolved
Ex. Tree branches go and split off to different organisms while the main branch continued on as group E to present day
Common ancestor
The species from which other species have descended
Ex. On the phylogeny tree species A is the main branch that made species B and C split off so a is the common ancestor for B and C
