Taxon

Invertebrates

Bacteria
A kingdom made up of single celled organisms with no nucleus
Fungi
A kingdom made up of organisms with nucleus, cell wall but no chloroplasts
Morphology
Structural features of an organism
Adaptation
A characteristic that makes an organism survive in a particular environment
Environment
The physical and chemical features of an area where an organism lives
Population
The number of organisms of one species living together in a a place
Competition
The fight for resources between organisms
Immigration
The movement of organisms into an area
Emigration
The movement of organisms out of an area
Biodiversity
The number of different species and number of individuals of those species living in an area
Quadrat
A square used for estimating plant population
Line transects
A method used for studying changes in plant communities over distance
Native species
Species that live naturally in an area
Alien species
Species that have been introduced into an area where they do not naturally occur
Invasive species
Species that have been introduced into an area and become pests
Biological control
The use of one organism to control the population size of another
Captive breeding
Reproduction of animals in zoos
