Classification Of Joints Flashcards
(8 cards)
Describe fibrous joints?
Bones held together by fibrous connective tissue rich in collagen fibres, there is no cavity (syndesmosis, sutures, gomphosis)
Describe cartilaginous joints?
When cartilage binds bone to bone- there’s no cavity
What are the two types of cartilaginous joint?
- Primary (synchondrosis) growth plates
- Secondary (symphysis) fibrocartilage
Describe synovial joints?
Bones held together by dense connective tissue (articular capsule and ligaments) there is a synovial cavity )
What are the key features of the synovial joint?
-joint cavity
-synovial fluid
-joint capsule
-synovial membrane
-articular cartilage
-ligaments
What are the 6 types of synovial joints?
1.planar joints
2. Hinge joints
3.pivot joints
4. Condyloid joints
5. Saddle joints
6 ball and socket joint
Define and explain the muscular contractions?
-Concentric- shortening against resistance
-eccentric-lengthening against resistance
-isometric- no change in length against resistance
