Climate change Flashcards
(23 cards)
Weather
The temperature, precipitation in a specific area in a specific time
Climate
characteristic weather conditions within a region. Including the average temperature over a long period of time
Eccentricity
The fluctuation if the earths orbit around the sun due to its attraction to other planets
- goes from elliptical to circular
- Effect the intensity of seasons
Tectonic Plates
Massive sections under the lithosphere. Every year they move closer together, causing changes in land, and in weather patterns
Lithosphere
The Earths solid crust
Hydrosphere
The water found on Earths surface
Atmospheric layers
Troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere, thermosphere, exosphere
Wobble
The earths wobbles on its axis because it is not a perfect sphere, this affects the intensity of solar energy
Tilt
The of the Earth changes by 2.4 over a period of 41,00 years. The greater the tilt the greater the difference between summer and winter
Anthropogenic
The cause or something relating to humans . Something that is influenced by us
Heat reservoir
An object or substance that absorbs heat
Greenhouse effect
Gases build up thermal energy in the atmosphere by absorbing infrared radiation
Global warming
The increase in the average global temperature
Radiation
The transfer of energy as as electromagnetic radiation
Convection
The transfer of thermal energy from one place to another
Conduction
The transfer of thermal energy through to objects in direct contact with eachother
Albedo
Is an objects ability to reflect light
Thermohaline circulation
The flow of water driven by temperature, salinity and the wind
Biomes
Large regions with similar abiotic and biotic components
Ecozones
A division of earths surface that has developed over a long period of time
Ecoregions
A subdivision of an ecozone, characterized by local land forms
Greenhouse Gases (manmade)
Release of excess CO2
- fossil fuels
- CEF
Greenhouse Gases (natural)
- water vapour
- methane
- ozone
