Clinical Gait - unit 3 Flashcards
(12 cards)
cerebral palsy
disorder to the development of movement and posture that occurs in developing fetal or infant brain
can cerebral palsy progress
the neurological damage cannot, but motor inability might
what is the prevalence of CP
most common motor disability
when does most brain injury leading to CP occur
pregnancy
types of gait abnormalities in CP
jump knee, recurvatum knee, crouch knee, stiff knee
jump knee
knees are flexed and rapidly extend, ankles are pointed (looks like jumping)
recurvatum knee
hyperextension and inversion of knees in stance phase (toes/knees turn inward)
crouch knee
excessive knee flexion in stance phase (knees stay bent)
stiff knee
limited knee flexion during swing phase
how might we intervene on jump and recurvatum knee
botox - to prevent muscle contraction
how might we intervene on crouch knee
cut heel/calf muscle to lengthen it
how might we intervene on stiff knee
rectus femoris (extender) taken from quad and added to be a knee flexor
