A
multiple attacks a day for x months, disappear for a few years then may com back.
attacks last for 15mins to 3hrs

what is a typical patient and what are the triggers
A
30-50yo male smoker
alcohol, strong smells, exercise

symptoms
A
intolerable pain
unilateral: >red, swollen, watering eye >miosis >ptosis >nasal discharge >facial sweating

acute management
A
> triptans e.g. sumatriptan 6mg injection (subcutaneous)
>high flow 100% O2 for 15-20mins

prophylaxis options
A
verapamil
lithium
prednisolone - short course for 2-3wks
