CNS Flashcards
(15 cards)
Dorsal White Column
Carries sensory information to the brain
Dorsal Root
Carries afferent (sensory) signals to the spine
Dorsal Rootlets
Transmit sensory information into the spinal cord
Dorsal Root Ganglion
Houses sensory neuron cell bodies
Dorsal Gray Horn
Receives sensory information from peripheral nerves
Spinal Nerve
Mixed nerve that carrying both sensory and motor signals between spine and body
Ventral Root
Carries efferent signals to peripheral effectors
Ventral Rootlettes
Transmits motor signals from spine to muscles
Lateral Gray Horn
Contains autonomic motor neurons, especially in the thoracic/lumbar spine
Central Canal
CSF flows through to spinal cord
Pia Mater
Inner layer on spine that nourishes and protects
Dorsal Median Sulcus
Separates left and right spinal cord on the dorsal part of the spine
Anterior Median Fissure
Separates spine into halves on anterior side
Gray Commissure
Connects anterior and posterior horns of gray matter
Ventral White Column
Carries motor signals from brain to skeletal muscles
