16
Q

What is the arachnoid?

A
  • middle layer;
  • made of threads with lots of space which is filled with cerebrospinal fluid,
  • used as a cushion to help protect the brain for minor head movement
17
Q

What is the Pia Mater?

A

inner layer that is very thin and delicate

18
Q

Cerebrum does….

A

higher functions of the body

19
Q

Diencephalon does…

A

autonomic functions

20
Q

Cerebellum does…

A

coordination of muscles

21
Q

The brainstem is…

A

located b/w the diencephalon to the spinal cord.

22
Q

What is the Blood-Brain Barrier?

A

a barrier that isolates neural tissue from the general circulation.

23
Q

What are the Sulci?

A

grooves in the brain located b/w the gyri

24
Q

What are the Gyri?

A

The elevated portions of the brain located b/w the sulci

25
Q

What are the lobes of the Cerebrum?

A

Frontal, Temporal, Parietal, & Occipital.

26
Q

What are the lobes functions?

A
  • Frontal- controls skeletal muscles
  • Temporal- Auditory processing
  • Parietal- main sensory area
  • Occipital: visual cortex and general recognotion
27
Q

What is the Corpus Callosum?

A

A thick band of white matter connecting the hemispheres.

28
Q

Where is the Cerebellum?

A

Inferior and posterior to the cerebrum

“little brain”

29
Q

What is the Arbor Vitae?

A

“Tree of Life”

Tree like design of the cerebellum.

30
Q

Function of the cerebellum?

A

Muscle coordination and muscle memory.
