Flashcards in CNS Vasculature Deck (19):
0

ICA branches

1. Ophthalmic artery
2. Posterior Communicating Artery
3. Anterior Choroidal Artery
4. Anterior Cerebral Artery
5. Middle Cerebral Artery

(OPAAM)

1

Ophthalmic artery

-Supplies eye and orbital structures

-CRA supplies inner retina

2

Posterior Communicating Artery

Supplies optic chiasm, tract, ventral hypothalamus, thalamus

3

Anterior Choroidal Artery

Supplies choroid plexus, optic tract, crus cerebri, internal capsule

4

Anterior Cerebral Artery

Supplies the medial portions of the brain

5

MCA

Supplies lateral hemisphere, Broca's and Wernicke's areas

*Gives off lenticulo-striate arteries which provide blood to the genu and posterior limb of the internal capsule

6

Vertebral Artery Branches

1. Posterior Spinal Artery
2. Anterior Spinal Artery
3. PICA
4. Medullary Arteries

7

PICA

Supplies lateral medulla and inferior cerebellum; also choroid plexus of 4th ventricle

Occlusion could affect vestibular nuclei, dorsal motor nucleus of X, nucleus ambiguus, lateral spinothalamic tract, descending sympathetic fivers

8

Basilar Artery branches

1. Pontine arteries
2. Labyrinthine artery
3. AICA
4. Superior cerebellar artery
5. PCA

9

Labyrinthine artery

Supplies inner ear

10

AICA

Supplies anterior inferior cerebellum and parts of the pons and medulla

11

PCA

Supplies the inferior lateral hemispheres of the brain, parts of the temporal lobe, and the occipital lobe

12

Thalamus blood supply

PCA and Posterior Communicating Artery

13

Midbrain blood supply

PCA and Basilar artery

14

Pons blood supply

Basilar artery

15

Medulla blood supply

Basilar and Vertebral arteries

16

Superior Cerebral Veins

Drain into superior sagittal sinus from lateral hemispheres;

17

Internal Cerebral Veins

Drain into Great Cerebral Vein of Galen

18

Tearing of Superior cerebral veins

Subdural hemorrhage
