1
Q

What is a discordant coastline?

A

A coastline with alternating layers of rock if looked from a front on coast perspective. They have a 90 degree parallel geology.

2
Q

What is the name of a discordant coastline in South- West England?

A

Cork coastline

3
Q

What can an area of resistant rock/land be called?

A

A detached island

4
Q

What is a headland?

A

Band of hard rock that isn’t eroded as much as the softer rock next to it, hence it sticks out (head-land)

5
Q

What is a bay?

A

Areas where soft rock has been eroded leaving a usually curved bend behind, next to the headland.

6
Q

What is wave refraction?

A

Change of the direction of waves (refraction of waves)

7
Q

What are some of the roles of tectonic activity in determining coastline geomorphology?

A

May push sedimentary rocks up from the seabed, which compiles to create the discordant coastline.
Also plate collisions cause the land to fold, creating weaknesses for waves to erode and exploit.

8
Q

Name the three types of rock?

A

Igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic.

9
Q

What is the most resistant type of rock?

A

Igneous rock

10
Q

Which rock type is most easily eroded?

A

Sedimentary rock.

11
Q

Name a concordant coastline?

A

Lulworth cove.

12
Q

What is a concordant coastline?

A

A concordant, longitudinal, or Pacific type coastline occurs where beds, or layers, of differing rock types are folded into ridges that run parallel to the coast.

13
Q

How many types of erosional processes are there?

A

4.

14
Q

Name the types of erosion that take place?

A

Hydraulic action, solution, corrosion and abrasion.

15
Q

Name the types of trasportation?

A

Solution, saltation, suspension and traction.
