Audio / visual Way finding Telegraphing information
Audio alarms can be heard everywhere in a corridor (almost) Visual cannot be visible on a everywhere Signage for facilities then they can read Way finding: it’s not part of Ada yet. Telegraphing information: like bumps that you can have under an interior stair to let blind people know that there is something going on . Or bumps next to a railing platform station - or different levels in a lobby, we can use kind of design that blind people can feel it - or putting an object under a picture that is hung on the wall to let blind people know that they need to be careful and not hitting themselves to an object on the wall

30
Transition in level
1/4” no need to bevel 1/4” to 1/2” - slope of 1:2 is needed What if we do not have enough space to have a 1:2 slope? Then you need to have 1/4” vertical without bevel and the rest of that (1/4”) should be sloped 1:2

38
What factors can determine the construction type for a building?
Occupancy (do we have one occupancy?)
39
What part of a theater is a good place for accessible chairs?
It should be distributed every where
40
The egress distance allowed for the apartment building will be dependant on?
The construction type (wood joist?) should be shorter Is it a sprinkler building or not Is the structure is more robust(fire rating) If so, longer distance How tall is the building Are there fire-rated walls in the egress corridor
41
How many egress stairs we need
More than 49 usually trigger the two-stairs How many exit doors you will need? Check the Occupancy and diagonal distance to determine the exit doors

43
During a renovation of a factory, you realize you need to change a portion of the building from f occupancy to h occupancy. What else should be reviewed for changes?
International Energy Conservation Code: No, this will not be changed due to a change from F to H National electric code (NFPA 70) Life Safety Code NFPA 101 Ada: No Nfpa 13: sprinkler system International mechanical code
44
Checklist of building code to review each project
IBC: Yes NFPA 13: no, we need it when we need sprinkler system IECC: yes ADA: yes NFPA 101: yes NFPA 70: National Electric Code NFPA 99: Healthcare International mechanical code
45
The best idea for firms to have checklists of codes
Perform a separate code analysis for each project using an office template
46
What will be determined according to IECC codes
Total building performance requirement Glazing thickness: No, it’s by IBC Electrical power consumption Lighting controls Ventilation requirement? No mechanical code will take care of that Wall insulating n requirement: Yes Just remember the comcheck: you had electrical and mechanical, wall insulation, not the glass thickness, Lighting requirement (you have added the lighting fixture info

Two-way communication system Lift
TWO-WAY COMMUNICATION SYSTEM Activation of standby power is typically automatic and is not a requirement of the two-way communication system Instructions for summoning assistance Instructions for summoning assistance via the two-way communication system must be posted. The identification of fire extinguisher locations is not part of the requirements for the two-way communication system. Identification of the location Written identification of the location of the area of refuge must be posted to direct assistance to the specific location Directions for use Directions for how to use the two-way communication system must be posted. For lift: standby power is needed. According to the 2010 ADA Standards, emergency communication is required for standard elevators and private residential elevators. It is not required for platform lifts. A full sprinkler system is designed to automatically respond to a fire when the sprinkler heads are activated by the heat from the fire.
51
which of the following is permitted as a ground or floor surface meeting ADA requirements asphalt carpet, concrete, gravel tile, wood
Asphalt concrete tile wood
52
Which of the following is a prime generator of harmful off-gassing? carpet particleboard paint plastic pipes Portland cement stainless steel,

Engineered wood Treated woods Formaldehyde in treated wood Carpet Formaldehyde is a cheap glue. Exposing to a large amount: of cancer Arsenic In wallpaper Paint Mdf Particle board Fireplaces also have formaldehyde Don't paint them (can be a solution) CARBS AND NALFA promote better indoor You can specify no VOCs or low VOCs
54
NFPA 13D NFPA 13R
NFPA 13D Correct. NFPA 13D is an automatic sprinkler system that is allowed in one- and two-family dwellings as well as townhomes, and is intended to provide life safety and not building protection. It is for residential occupancies and supplies the sprinkler system off of the domestic water service. NFPA 13R
55
To test if an interior slab is good What tests should be mentioned on specification?
Compression test Correct. The compression test verifies the compressive strength of the concrete at specified intervals. Flatness test Correct. Since precision instruments are going to be used in the space, it is important that the floor flatness/levelness is within the tolerance specified by the equipment vendors. Slump test Correct. The slump test verifies the workability of the concrete mix. Air content test Incorrect. This test is used to measure the air entrapment within the mix to counteract freeze/thaw conditions. As this is an interior slab, the temperature should remain consistent year round. This particular test is more common with exterior concrete.
56
Slope for ADA
1:12 For cross slope: 1:48 or 2%
57
When the exit is 75’ above the lowest level of fire access
Then we need to pressurize the stairs to keep the smoke out Or underground building by
58
which regulatory elements or a national, or a state or local
ADA is national fair, housing act is national architectural licensure is state billing codes better to be state because it’s adopted by states however international building code is national Zoning ordinance and master plan are local zoning ordinances, and the master plan is low, called Historical overlays is local Covid nant is a local
59
ADA vs A117.1 (IBC)
Ada clear floor area: 30 x48 A117.1: 3x52. (new construction)
60
Fire separation distance Very important
Half of the distance between two building Or the distance between lot line to the building Or Half the way cross the street and the building
61
What is the idea of parapet for? Where don’t we need parapet?
Where the exterior wall is required to be If the building foot print is less than 1000 It’s not required if the wall hit the 2 hour non combustible roof Exceptional for residential Where the wall is permitted to have at least 25% unprotected opening, you don’t have to have parapet
62
Concrete block with gypsum board
3 hr
63
Gypsum board type X
Denser core with glass fibers 5/8 thick Between a boiler room and the rest of apartment type x drywall
64
If you are renovating a historic building, I need the code of a show to be flexible and watch real is the code for flexible fire code accessibility
Fire code You can find a way for fire code but for accessibility it has to be there otherwise levitation
65
Why are y’all buildings step back after x floor
For fire separation Air and light
66
What is the best practice in a fire? Pressurize Exhaust
Both
67
Turtles to be aware of
50 and more than 50 people in a room triggers, the requirement of a second egress 300 people and more in a building, triggers, the requirement for central fire alarm system, safe areas, backup generator Assembly one is a trigger Reassurance is a trigger Hotels are If you have a residential building and you have more than 16 rooms, that is a trigger
68
Level of renovation
Repair: like patching Lever 1 alteration Changing or replacing - covering - new fixture - like replacing seats in the balking of a theater Lever 2 alteration Eliminating Door or window New ac system Changing hvac Lieberman three More than 50% of the busking (you need to meet with your code official)
69
If a conference room is in a business building has the occupancy less than 49 people, then what is the occupancy of the conference room?
As long as it’s less than 50 people, the occupancy is a B not A
70
Incidental Accessory Non seperated Seperated
-we have an office that has a boiler room inside. We can call the boiler room an incidental use as long as it's smaller than 10% of the total area of the office. It becomes B occupancy. In this case, look at section 509 incidental use. (for example, the table says if we have a furnace we need to have an hour-rated wall, it's still B occupancy but the fire) To have a room identified as incidental use, it should be mentioned in Table 509!! What is it's a storage area within the office and it's not on the incidental table 509? That storage is less than 10% or more? storage area less than 10% and is used primarily by the occupant, we will call it an accessory use area. It's a big B occupancy If it's more than 10% or it's less than 10% but it's not being used by the tenant, then we need to choose non-separated or separated occupancy: Non-separated: you will not have fire-rated walls between storage and the office! However, you will consider the entire building as a more stringent one (Between B and storage) means STORAGE!! If you are choosing a separate path, then you need to have fire-rated walls per mix-use occupancy and everything on that wall should be fire-rated. Table 508 What if you choose non separated path and you dont have to separate the two occupancy because one of them is less than 10% of the floor area, but you have a closet in your accessory room that has gasoline, then it will be an incidental use and it needs to be fire rated.
71
Transformer Switch gear
4” of the property lines Switchgear: a big building that has a lot of watts, in case of fire, you do not want a firefighter to go and find the breaker! Not got houses! For big buildings. It has a cabinet that can turn off the breaker. Switchgear will be located right at the moment the electrical line goes inside the building.
72
ASTM E1537 ASTM E 1903 ASHARE 55 ASHARE 62 ASHARE 90.1
What is the meaning of eco material will be defined here with ASTM MAJOR PLAYERS? ANSI ASHARE ASTM ASTM e1537 Phase 1 environmental ASTM e1903 Phase 2 environmental review ASHARE 55 (LEED certified) thermal comfort ASHARE 62 (LEED certified) INDOOR AIR QUALITY ASHARE 90.1 Energy efficient design
73
A non-combustible construction type (type one and type two) even the artwork (larger than 40 ft.²) should be non-combustible
74
Where to locate some thing on a roof
Consider the structure of the building. Do not put heavy equipment that make a lot of vibration on the mid span of the billing. Try to locate them on Collins then the vibration will be less. Consider noise, for example, do not locate air handling units above bedrooms or meditation rooms Consider the view equipment, far from the edge of the building will not be visible from down views Consider fall protection, equipment still need to be maintained more often they need to be located 10 feet far from the edge of parapet You will need struts and cable for harness attachment.
