Q

MSM: answer

A

MSM was first theorised by Atkinson and Shiffrin (1968) where the overall theory of memory was divided into two distinct dimensions: control processes and structural components.

Control processes are not permanent features of memory, but changing phenomena that the individual controls (like cognitive filters), e.g. schema that influence how memory is encoded and retrieved.

Structural components suggest how information flows through three memory stores or stages, each with specific capacity or duration: sensory, short-term, long-term.
