Q

breifley describe collision theory ?

A

for a reaction to take place between two molecules , they must collide with enough energy to break bonds .the collision must also take place between the parts of the molecule that are going to react together so they have to collide at the correct point .
most collisions don’t lead to a reaction

Q

how does increasing the temperature affect rate of reaction ?

A

increases speed of molecules , in turn increases both their energy and the number of collisions

Q

how does increasing the concentration of a solution affect the rate of reaction?

A

more particles present in a given volume = collisions more likely = rate of reaction faster
however it gets used up so in most reactions the rate of reaction drops

Q

how does increasing the surface area of solid reactants affect rate of reaction?

A

greater the total surface area of a solid=more particles are available to collide with molecules in a gas or a liquid
