chicken pox

A
  • Starts as a macular lesion, that develops into vesicles
  • most spots are on the face and on the trunk (starts on the trunk)
  • Rash peaks around 48 hours
  • Treatment is supportive for most
  • Immunocompromised patients may consider acyclovir in the first 48 hours +/- Varicella zoster immunoglobulin (at the end of pregnancy)

* notifiable disease

  • viral inflammatory infection of the parotid gland.
  • as about vaccination history
    Treatment = conservative
    complications: Mumps orchitis in little boy - look for testicular swelling and test. as causes infertility or ovarian inflammation

also pancreatitis
