Commonly asked prospect questions Flashcards

1
Q

What is the criteria for a candidate to be selected to become an apprentice? Do they have some baseline tech skills?

A

Our minimum requirements for apprentices to be considered are as follows:
- Able to work in the United States
- Hold a HS diploma/GED or Associate’s Degree
- Do not* hold a bachelor’s degree
- Between the ages of 18-26

Our admissions team accesses core competencies that include: interpersonal skills, personal impact, commitment, grit, critical thinking, curiosity, and coachability.

Technical skills are accessed depending on the program. For instance, our Software Engineering Program requires candidates to have knowledge of at least 1 coding language and we test their proficiency within our pre-screening process before the employer interviews the candidate. For other technical roles, like digital marketing, we have candidates upload marketing certifications/courses and project examples to highlight their digital proficiency.

Q

Is there training for the Apprentices by Multiverse prior to company placement? If so, length and depth of that training?

A

Our Software Engineering Program is 15 months long. The first 3 months are a bootcamp that apprentices attend prior to joining the employer’s software engineering team to ensure they have fundamental full-stack skills on their first day of work.

All other programs are 12 months long and have a 2-3 day orientation where professional communication, collaboration, problem solving, conflict resolution, conflict resolution, written norms of the business workplace, and navigating technical tools are covered. Apprentices simultaneously begin their apprenticeship training and work with their employer after orientation, where 85% of their time is on their day job and 15% of their time is made up of training/coaching/mentoring with Multiverse.

Q

What is the length and depth of the program? – We believe length is 12-15 months, but what is the expectation of proficiency depth following that?

A

All programs are 12 months long, except for our Software Engineering Program- which is 15 months long (including the 3 month bootcamp).

All programs are designed to ramp up apprentices quickly & gradually, with the expectation that in their last month, their knowledge will be comparable to a computer science, digital marketing, data science, etc. grad.

As we walk through our curricula we will showcase the expectations of apprentices at each point in the program, and what you, at Target, can expect in terms of skills and productivity. We see 60% of our partners expanding their programs within 6 months due to the value they already see from their apprentices.

Q

Do we determine if the apprenticeship is in-person, fully remote or hybrid? Based on this, does it matter what type of work arrangement the direct leaders have?

A

Target determines whether the apprenticeship is in-person, remote, or hybrid dependent on their team needs.

All Multiverse training will be remote.

Q

Do all 50 Apprentices need to be in the same program?

A

No. We understand that the needs of your business might require a couple of programs, and in addition to that, not all apprentices need to be hired for the exact same role. In fact, most of our cohorts have a variety of roles within the program. Ex: A Software Engineering cohort can have full-stack, front-end, and back-end developers. We even have further electives like mobile, cyber-security, and data engineering. Our Digital Business Accelerator apprentices can be placed in a compilation of roles in HR, Ops, Sales, Client Success, Analysts, etc.

Q

Do we need to sign on for 50 apprentices at once or can it be a staggered approach (or two classes over two years)?

A

To qualify for OneTen funding, all 50 apprentices must start their program this year. Though, there are other opportunities beyond Oneten that do not limit your approach (for other individuals).

Q

What roles are Multiverse graduates equipped to do? – Broad tech proficiency or deep engineering proficiency? This is somewhat addressed in the materials they provided, but is there more?

A

Multiverse apprentices are equipped for dozens of roles across functions like software engineering, digital marketing, data science, and digital business (sales, customer success, ops, HR, etc).
All technical programs like software engineering/data/digital marketing cover deep technical skills, though it’d be best to understand what’s considered broad v.s. deep proficiency on our call.

Q

Are they willing to create bespoke programs in the future depending on our needs?

A

Our programs are highly personalized due to the 1:1 coaching and our coach will spend significant time up front understanding the needs of Target (be that values or specific technologies).
There is an opportunity for bespoke programming, though we have an approval process with our learning and innovation team prior to confirming any new launches.

Q

If these external apprentices will not be TMs (like interns/EEPs), but will be part of the team, what is the expectation for apprentice experience knowing we have strict co-employment policies (i.e. can’t give developmental feedback, join team building, etc.)

A

We have a few questions to clarify our understanding of this. Let’s dig into this question on our call.

Q

Similar question to the above but is there any additional programming or experiences we’d want to offer to apprentices to showcase Target culture? Could they get access to different leader speaker series, redtalks, etc.?

A

Absolutely, we encourage apprentices to be included and engaged like any other Target employee. Apprentices will also have high engagement opportunities through the Multiverse community.

17
Q

How long is ramp time?

A

So it really depends on the organization

Amex - as an example, just had their 6 month check in with us and said all their SWE apprentices are fully ramped and ready to be hired on full time

I would say 9 months is usually the longest we’ll see to be ramped to be safe

WE’ve heard from a ton of our organizations that our apprentices ramp faster than their 4 year graduates because of the additional coaching and support they get and the caliber of talent

What does ramp typically look like at your org for entry level talent?

Non- entry level?
