Whats a dynamic character?
Chracters who evolve or cange over time
whats a static character?
characters who do not change over time
whats a round character?
characters who have complex personalities
whats a flat character?
characters known for only one kind of personality trait. also known as stock characters
whats a direct characterization type?
TELLS the reader the personality of the character
whats an indirect characterization type?
SHOWS the reader the personality of the character
What is setting?
the time and place in which a story takes place. also includes conditions (weather, landscape)
What is plot?
plot refers to the actions and events that take place
what is included in exposition?
Introduces characters
establishes setting
creates interest
suspense and foreshadowing
presents the situation
begins to set tone/mood
What is included in rising action?
Details and comlications are added as events build
Story is complicated with addition og characters/conflicts
What is included in the climax?
The peak of the action
Highest point of action, tension, or suspense in the story
often the crisis/turning point
whats included in the falling action?
Things begin to wind down
the drop in action, tension, or suspense
Conflicts begin to resolve
Whats included in the resolution?
The final reconciling of the central conflict
The story is usually tied up
Theres a sense that the characters are moving on with their lives
What is conflict?
Conflict is the problem, issue or struggle that needs to be confronted and resolved in the story
What is internal conflict?
Takes place inside the body or mind of a character
Whats external conflict?
Takes place outside of the body (an outside force)
Whats a person vs self conflict?
Ones inner struggle, usually moral decisions
Whats a person vs person conflict?
struggle between 2 characters
whats a person vs society conflict?
struggle against social pressure, government etc
whats a person vs nature conflict?
struggle against forces of nature
whats a person vs supernatural conflict?
struggle with things not of this world
What is first person pov?
uses i, me, my, mine. character in the story is telling the story
what is second person pov?
uses you, your, yours. the person telling the story talks to the reader
what is third person pov?
uses s/he, him, her, they, his, hers. the person telling the story is not in the story
