What is the correct position for a casualty with a serious head injury?
Lie them down, keep their head, neck and spine in line, and call 999/112.
What should you do if a chemical gets into someone’s eye?
Wash the eye with sterile solution or tap water for at least 10 minutes. Do not rub or cover the eye.
How do you treat someone having a heart attack?
Call 999/112, assist them into a half-sitting position, loosen tight clothing, and monitor them.
How many rescue breaths do you give at the poolside after towing an unconscious casualty?
5 initial rescue breaths, then exit with help and begin full CPR (30:2) if no signs of life.
What’s your main priority for a severe bleed on the leg?
Apply direct pressure with a sterile dressing. Elevate the limb if possible and not painful.
In a stroke assessment, what does FAST stand for?
Face, Arms, Speech, Time to call 999.
Should you clean up blood while treating a casualty?
No. Focus on the casualty. Blood clean up happens after the emergency is under control.
Why do you monitor a casualty’s Airway, Breathing, and Circulation regularly?
To detect deterioration quickly and be ready to act (e.g., CPR if they stop breathing).
