A

Grown from a small fishing village known as Brighthelmston into a big seaside city.

Historical reasons for its growth

A

The prince first visited the town in 1783 and spent much of his leisure time there.
This caused the place to become very popular- growing in tourism and eventually the vast residential and tourist infrastructure of a city it is today.

What happened in the different times of its development?

A

1830s- Brighton had a pier and promenade- still very much used as a fishing port but a very fashionable place to go.

1910s- Bathing platforms and other tourist infrastructure.

19th century- More tourism.

20th century- More commercial buildings.

21st century- More residential and populated (universities etc) with lots of service industry. Urban sprawl. Variety of housing- high end and council estates.
