  • Type 1 (Most common): no demonstrable lesion to a major nerve
  • Type 2 - there is a lesion to a major nerve

What are the features of CRPS?

A
  • Progressive, disproportionate symptoms to the original injury/surgery
  • Allodynia (pain from a non-painful stimulus)
  • Temperature and skin colour changes
  • Oedema and sweating
  • Motor dysfunction

How is CRPS managed?

A
  • Early physiotherapy is important
  • Neuropathic analgesia in-line with NICE guidelines
  • Specialist management (e.g. Pain team) is required
